On this day in Yorkshire: July 25th 1998: Jane McDonald tops the album charts

Wakefield lass, Jane McDonald topped the album charts on this day in 1998. The Reality TV star turned presenter rose to fame on “The Cruise,” which profiled the lives of staff working on board the luxury ship, “The Galaxy.” McDonald was a singer on the liner and became a star of the show. On the strength of this she recorded her first album, named after herself, which featured a string of covers, such as, “One Moment in Time,” “How Do I Live,” and “Downtown.” She has had more recent successes both on the small screen as a member of the Loose Women team and on the stage, where she has starred in many theatre productions, including, “Cats.”
