On this day in 1907- The First Sheffield Green ‘Un sports pages were printed
Sheffield is well known for being sport pioneers. In 1907 a new supplement was launched to feed the appetite of the city’s sporting public. With two teams to cover and a fierce rivalry between The Owls and The Blades to create good copy, this specialist Saturday sports supplement in the Sheffield Star became very much part of the sporting weekend. In days of yore, before radio and television, fans would eagerly flick through the pages looking for their team’s result and avidly read the match reports. The Green un’ supplement existed for over one hundred years, before it inevitably moved online. The final souvenir printed edition was published in July 2013.
